Swimming Pool Reminders

Pools

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 2,000 children visit emergency rooms each year from pool-related accidents and around 300 children under the age of 5 die every year as a result of drowning.

These frightening statistics are enough to make anyone be more cautious about home swimming pools. By following swimming pool safety protocols, you could help prevent an accident from happening.

  • Private pool owners should secure their pool with a fence, and install pool and gate alarms to alert you when children go near the water.
  • All pools and hot tubs should have a cover that is in good working order as well as compliant drain covers.
  • Pool owners should clearly mark the depth of the pool and provide proper lighting in the pool to discourage swimmers from diving into shallow areas.
  • Non-slip materials should be put on high-risk areas for slipping including the deck, ladders, and diving board.
  • And, most importantly, never leave children unattended when they are swimming or near a pool.
